I don't know what it is about the wake picture that makes it look so decidedly un-digital. I don't think it's just the vignetteing (which I think looks great in this picture, btw), but something about the texture of the churning water. Lovely shot.

It was taken with a film camera -- a Seagull, which is a twin lens reflex with 6x6cm frame.

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.

I remembered that the Seagull was your new film toy. The point I was failing to make is that it's not redundant. That even as good as digital is, there's still just something about film that digital can't replace. Or maybe it's something else about the Seagull that's resulting in what I'm seeing and not understanding.

Okay, sorry.

I've just noticed how different vignetting, when added with photoshop, looks from vignetting from the camera or lens. Now photoshop vignetting looks fake to me, where it didn't before.

It could be the size of the frame -- even if I cropped a digital image squarely, the capturing medium is so much larger on the 6x6 than a digital sensor.

But I've noticed a texture or something in film images even on the web that makes them noticeably not digital capture.
