But we still saw plenty on a nice sunny Sunday: Barrow's Goldeneyes, Brants Geese, American Wigeons, robins, crows, western gulls, etc. Those last few could be filled in in advance. New this time were Bonaparte's Gulls, a Hairy Woodpecker, and a Fox Sparrow pair. We got pretty close to the hairy woodpecker, close enough to hear it thumping away. "I've had meetings at Microsoft like that," I said, which is a handy line to keep around whenever you see a woodpecker. You may feel free to use it without credit. The Fox Sparrows were hopping through the undergrowth at the Fern Glen trail, the new trail I walked down yesterday. So was the woodpecker.
I've uploaded a few pictures to Flickr, starting here, with a small stand of giant horsetail.
