|11:16 am - Jade Mountain|
Ravenna Park, Seattle
I'm going to write up my memories of this park later this afternoon. It is a nice park. It's long and narrow, with a deep ravine and many trails.
Our winters are actually getting warmer, but much much wetter. South of us, Portland, OR has colder winters, because it's a little further inland.
Portland also gets cold air coming down the Columbia Gorge from east of the mountains.

I'm looking to buy a DSLR and wondering what you like/use?
I'm looking at the Nikon D90(leaning towards this one), D80, and the Canon Rebel XSi.
I don't know if you cameras are film or digital, but if digital:
What do you have?
What do you like about it?
What do you hate/dislike about it?
I think the D90 would be cool. I've read a little about it. It's nice that you can do video with it, even though I understand the files are huge. I also like the live view, which is handy when shooting from awkward angles or using a tripod.
I have a film camera I no longer use, a D70 and a D300. Nowadays I mostly use the D300.

It was the live view that mainly had me over the D80. I knew it did the video, but I think I'd rather use a video camera for that*, but the live view appeals to my aging eyesight!
*My friend says the video in an SLR body would make it less obvious to people that you were shooting video. I wouldn't have thought of something like that, but that makes it a neat feature.
Are you happy with the Nikon family? Is there anything about it you wish it would do differently?
It's the camera I bought, and now I have lenses for it. I figure at a certain level, the differences become just niggling little details. No one camera is going to have all bells and whistles, so it comes down to what feels best in your hand. But, yes, I'm pretty happy with Nikons in general.
I haven't used live view hand-held yet, just on the tripod.
The review of the D90 I read said that the lens it came with was much higher quality than you'd get with a comparably priced video camera, and the video itself was good.

Cool, good to know about the D90 lens.
Thanks for your input, Luke! I appreciate it!

I used to live across the street from Ravenna Park about 5 years ago. Such a beautiful park! I walked through it every day with our (my ex's) dogs.
I've only visited it a few times, but most of the memories are fairly intense.
